Claggett Middle School Track

  • Who: 7th and 8th Grade Boys and Girls

    What: Track and Field

    When: Spring

    Where: Claggett M.S. Track

Why: To run, jump, or throw

Track is not a "cut" sport, so anyone may participate without the fear of being cut from the team. There are technically 4 different teams: 7th grade girls, 7th grade boys, 8th grade girls, 8th grade boys.  All 4 teams will train together, but will run separately at meets. Generally, if the girls have a home meet, then boys have an away meet, and vice-versa.  Then 7th grade girls compete only against other 7th grade girls teams, and so on. Occasionally, there is a boys and girls meet together, but all 4 teams run against only their age groups.  Events include: 100, 200, 400, 800, mile, 4x100, 4x200, 4x400, 100 hurdles, 200 hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot put, discus.  There is also a conference meet, which features our top two athletes in each event.  This is determined by best times, jumps, throws, etc., but coaches have the final say depending on circumstances.  We need parent volunteers for home meets to run our concession stand and to help time meets.  No experience is necessary.  Track is a lot of fun, and a great learning experience.  We hope to see many of you out at the track this spring.
